SARGA.CO – In the world of Indonesian horse racing, only a handful of names manage to cross the line between being a champion and becoming a legend. One of them is Manik Trisula, a G3 jragem mare born on September 25, 1998, who etched her name in history in 2002 as the first horse to ever win the Indonesian Triple Crown.
Manik Trisula was born from a high-quality pairing: sire Swift John, a Thoroughbred from Australia, and dam Putri Solo II, a G2 mare known for strong endurance. With this genetic combination, Manik had the ideal foundation to become a top contender for middle-to-long-distance races.
Trained by Ir. Febrius A. and ridden by a young, promising jockey, A. Suhara, Manik grew under the Pamulang Stable banner, representing the hopes of West Sumatra’s racing scene. Before entering the national stage, she had already won several local races in Minang territory.
From 1,200 Meters to 1,850 Meters: A Clean Sweep
To win the Indonesian Triple Crown, a horse must conquer three races at different distances. And Manik did it convincingly.
At 1,200 meters, she won decisively, showing remarkable acceleration.
At 1,600 meters, she proved her stamina and consistency.
And at 1,850 meters (Indonesia Derby 2002) – She reached the peak of her glory, sealing her status as a legend.
It was in the 2002 Derby that her most iconic moment was born.
According to senior trainer Tuan Amris, who witnessed the Derby firsthand, Manik Trisula didn’t immediately take the lead. She ran within the pack, waiting for the right moment.
“But the other horses ran out of steam. Only Manik kept running fast in front. And that’s how she became the Triple Crown champion,” Amris recalled on Baharna TV’s YouTube channel.
As her competitors began to fade, Manik found her second wind. She surged forward, took the lead with authority, and never looked back.
The victory belonged not only to Manik but also to jockey A. Suhara, who guided her flawlessly, as well as trainer Ir. Febrius A. and owner Trisa Y. Febrius, who had believed in her potential from the start.
After retiring, Manik Trisula produced two fillies: Manik Intan (2003), by sire Long War, and Karina (2006), by sire Sabeil.
