Wahono AT, a trainer from Djon’s Stable, revealed that racehorse stables are equipped to high standards, including thoughtful attention to where the horses rest.

“They (racehorses) are athletes. So the facilities must meet top standards—including their bedding, which uses fine sawdust,”

said Wahono in an interview with SARGA NEWS.

Interestingly, the sawdust isn’t just scattered randomly. Its thickness must be carefully calculated for optimal comfort and safety.

“Too thick, and it becomes uncomfortable. Too thin, and the horse could get injured or feel uneasy. There’s a precise standard to follow,”
explained the Kebumen-born trainer.

“One large truckload of sawdust costs around Rp3 million. That’s enough to make ten ‘springbeds’ for horses,”

Wahono added.

This attention to detail reflects the care and love trainers and stables have for their horses. After all, a horse’s comfort in the stable is believed to impact their performance on the racetrack directly.
