SARGA.CO – The popular Japanese horse-girl-themed game Umamusume: Pretty Derby has officially surpassed US$2.5 billion (over Rp40 trillion) in total player spending on mobile platforms. This impressive figure was recorded as of September 24, 2025, according to the latest data from AppMagic.
The total comes from in-app purchases on Google Play and the App Store, excluding revenue from alternative platforms or other app stores. If those were included, Umamusume’s overall revenue would likely be even higher.
First released in Japan in February 2021, Umamusume: Pretty Derby became an instant hit. The game dominated Japan’s mobile market, ranking as the highest-grossing mobile game in the country for two consecutive years, 2021 and 2022.
After four long years, in June 2025, Cygames finally launched the global English version, which was met with overwhelming enthusiasm.
Although Japan still accounts for 97% of total player spending, the game’s global expansion has started to pay off. Over the past three months, international markets have contributed US$55.3 million (Rp915 billion), led by: United States: US$37.2 million (Rp615 billion), Canada: US$3.4 million (Rp56 billion)
Cygames expressed surprise at the game’s warm reception overseas.
“To be honest, we weren’t sure how Japan’s unique horse racing culture would be received in Western markets. But we’ve been pleasantly surprised by the positive response from around the world,” said a Cygames representative in an interview.
Record Daily Revenue and Renewed Enthusiasm
Even though annual revenue has shown a downward trend year after year, the global release pushed Umamusume to achieve its third-highest daily revenue in history.
On August 24, 2025, the game earned US$4.46 million (Rp74 billion) in a single day. This spike coincided with the Legend Race vs. Vodka event, the release of a new character, and the Japanese version’s 4.5-year anniversary celebration.
For comparison, the game’s all-time daily revenue record was US$4.47 million (Rp75 billion) on August 21, 2021.
With more than four months left before the game’s fifth anniversary, Umamusume may still reverse its declining revenue trend since 2023. As of now, its 2025 revenue has reached US$232.3 million (Rp3.8 trillion), closing in on last year’s total of US$295.6 million (Rp4.8 trillion).
Cygames, under CyberAgent, has also achieved another milestone this year—earning a spot on PocketGamer.biz’s Top 50 Mobile Game Makers 2025, ranking 23rd.
