SARGA.CO – The North Sumatra provincial chapter of PORDASI is going full throttle in preserving and advancing equestrian sports, particularly in the discipline of show equestrian, through the prestigious 2025 Governor’s Cup Equestrian Championship. The event took place on August 2–3, 2025, at the Aswaraya Aragon Stable Equestrian Venue in Deli Serdang and is part of the official annual calendar of Indonesia’s national equestrian federation (PORDASI).
“This Governor’s Cup reflects our commitment to bringing equestrian sports closer to the general public while also nurturing quality equestrian athletes from North Sumatra and beyond,” said H. HR. Yuriandi Siregar, SE, SH, Chairman of North Sumatra’s PORDASI Provincial Board, as quoted on Pordasi.id, Monday, August 4, 2025.
Two main disciplines are featured in the championship: Dressage and Show Jumping. The Dressage category includes classes ranging from Walk Trot 2 to FEI Preliminary, while the Show Jumping events challenge riders with obstacle heights ranging from 30 cm to 70 cm.
A total of 24 horses participated, with 96 competition entries from across Indonesia, including Aceh, Riau, and Lampung—ready to take on the host athletes from North Sumatra.
Yuri Siregar emphasized that the event is not only a competitive platform, but also an educational opportunity for North Sumatra’s horse-loving community. He expressed hope that the enthusiasm built from the success of the PON XXI Aceh–North Sumatra 2024 will carry on through events like this.
“We’re very grateful for the full support from the North Sumatra provincial government, which helped prepare the venue so well. Aswaraya Aragon Stable is now fully ready to host national championships,” he added.
Preserving Tradition: Horse Racing Still Thriving
According to Yuri, equestrian sports in North Sumatra are becoming increasingly diverse. In addition to equestrian and horseback archery (HBA), the tradition of horse racing is also being preserved. A Horse Racing Championship is scheduled for October 2025 in Siborong-borong, a region known as the cultural heartland of horse racing in the province.
Market value expected to reach US$1.73 billion by 2035
