SARGA.CO – The historic triumph of King Argentine at the 2025 IHR-Indonesia Derby wasn't just a win for jockey Jemmy "Kilat" Runtu or owner Kusnadi Halim of King Halim Stable. Behind the scenes, one man stood quietly at the heart of the story: Farooq Ali Khan, the trainer who helped turn a rising colt into a Triple Crown legend.
Farooq Ali Khan, the man behind King Argentin's success in winning three consecutive Triple Crown titles in the Indonesian Horse Racing (IHR), shared a similar sense of joy.
Coming to King Halim Stable as a horse trainer, Farooq recounted his initial introduction to King Argentin, who was once not the top choice in his bid to win the Indonesian Triple Crown.
Farooq explained after King Argentin's victory in the 2025 Indonesia's Horse Racing (IHR)-Indonesia Derby championship at the Sultan Agung Horse Racing Field, Bantul, DI Yogyakarta, recently.
However, Farooq's perspective changed when he saw King Argentin's impressive performance, especially after a series of victories in various championships.
His confidence in King Argentin as a top choice in the Triple Crown race grew stronger after the 3-year-old stallion won two Triple Crown races held at the IHR.
said Farooq Ali Khan.
According to Farooq, he has equal confidence in the abilities of both King Argentin and Princess Gavi. However, he acknowledged that the two horses have distinct characteristics that give them their respective strengths.
King Argentin is recognized as a horse with a strong heart and a knack for understanding the wishes of his jockey. Princess Gavi, on the other hand, is a high-quality horse capable of accelerating at desired speeds.
"These are two horses with different qualities," Farooq emphasized.
Regarding the specific strategy prepared for King Argentin to win the 2025 IHR-Indonesia Derby, Farooq admitted that he did not give too many instructions to the jockeys.
He simply advised encouraging King Argentin and Princess Gavi to get off to a good start. After successfully completing the first test, Farooq instructed the jockeys to follow the other horses and try to find a gap in the final turn before the finish.
"That's what was implemented for King Argentin and Princess Gavi. In the final turn, give the horses instructions. Just follow them," Farooq said.
