SARGA.CO – Aryo PS Djojohadikusumo, Chairman of the Indonesian Equestrian Federation (PP PORDASI), officially inaugurated H. Iqbal Nadjamuddin as the new Chairman of the South Sulawesi Provincial PORDASI (Pengprov PORDASI Sulsel) for the 2025–2029 term. The ceremony took place on Friday, June 27, 2025, at Aula Asta Cita, the official residence of the Governor of South Sulawesi.
The event was attended by key regional figures, including Governor H. Andi Sudirman Sulaiman, S.T., KONI Sulsel Chair Yasir Machmud, Youth and Sports Agency Head H. Suherman, and the full organizational structure of Pengprov PORDASI Sulsel. The moment marked a strong commitment to developing equestrian sports in eastern Indonesia.
In his speech, Aryo emphasized that this inauguration should be viewed as a strategic step in building a stronger equestrian sports ecosystem nationwide. He stressed that developing top athletes cannot be centralized but must be deeply rooted in the regions.
“If we want Indonesian equestrian athletes to compete on the world stage, grassroots development is key. The provincial boards are our frontliners. Therefore, synergy with local governments, KONI, and the community must be solid,” said Aryo.
He underscored the importance of well-planned, high-quality, and competitive regional championships—not only for producing champions but also as a platform for learning, exchanging experiences, and growing a resilient equestrian community.
Aryo also called for sustainable development, from talent scouting and basic training to opportunities at national and international levels. PP PORDASI, he assured, is committed to fully supporting provincial boards that seriously invest in quality championships, adhering to national standards.
“Regional championships aren’t just about trophies—they’re about growing new coaches, skilled grooms, and athletes ready for the big leagues,” he added.
The newly appointed Chairman of the South Sulawesi Provincial Executive Board of the Indonesian Association of Horse Riding Associations (PORDASI), H. Iqbal Nadjamuddin, immediately launched a fresh idea: making equestrian sports an extracurricular activity in schools.
"If we want the younger generation to know and love equestrian sports, we must start with education. Imagine if our children were accustomed to seeing horses as part of a healthy and disciplined activity," said Iqbal.
Furthermore, he highlighted the importance of supporting facilities, such as a representative racetrack, as the primary means of developing equestrian activities and championships in South Sulawesi.
Several previous equestrian championships have served as indicators of the region's growing enthusiasm. Examples include the Dies Natalis Horse Riding and Archery Competition for the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Hasanuddin University, Makassar, successfully held in April 2025 with 680 participants, and the Bupati Cup 1 Horse Race in Jeneponto, which was a lively event last May.
These events demonstrate the resurgence of equestrian sports in the region, not only developing potential talent but also generating direct economic benefits for the local community. Events like these stimulate MSMEs, attract tourists, and serve as socio-cultural magnets that strengthen regional identity.
Previously, PP PORDASI also successfully held the Chairman's Cup Horseback Archery Championship at Muntig Siokan Beach, Bali, in May 2025, with participation from 10 provinces and 4 countries. This demonstrates that regional equestrian events can reach international levels if properly managed.
Support from the central government and enthusiasm from the regions are now the ideal combination for building a more inclusive and successful future for equestrian sports.
No longer viewed as an exclusive sport, equestrianism is now emerging as a popular sport, one that not only relies on prestige but also builds character, culture, and the local economy.
The inauguration of the South Sulawesi Provincial Executive Board of PORDASI (Indonesian Horse Racing Association) was no ordinary ceremony. It was the beginning of a new wave: that from eastern Indonesia, the revival of equestrian sports could begin with steady steps, a steady rhythm, and a determination to push the boundaries of the track.
Market value expected to reach US$1.73 billion by 2035
