SARGA.CO – The Central Executive Board of PORDASI, together with the Ministry of Agriculture and international experts from WOAH (World Organisation for Animal Health), held a meeting in Bali on Friday, May 9, 2025, to discuss strategic steps toward establishing an Equine Disease-Free Zone (EDFZ) in Java-Bali.
The meeting involved key stakeholders, including Susanne Munstermann, Independent Animal Health Consultant for WOAH; Imron Suandy, Director of Animal Health at the Ministry of Agriculture; and representatives from the Denpasar Veterinary Center and the Indonesian Quarantine Agency.
said Susanne, as quoted from Pordasi.id, Tuesday, May 20, 2025.
She emphasized the importance of official recognition of freedom from African Horse Sickness (AHS)—a mandatory requirement from WOAH and the European Union, that includes a 24-month pathogen monitoring period. Susanne also encouraged expanded surveillance for other diseases, like EHV, Hendra, Nipah, and WNV.
The government responded promptly. Imron Suandy affirmed the commitment to initiate diplomatic communication with WOAH, the European Union, and FEI. PORDASI also declared full support for the establishment of the zone.

The meeting resulted in several concrete actions:
This step follows the MoU signed between PORDASI Chairman Aryo Djojohadikusumo and Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman in January 2025, which agreed that establishing a disease-free zone is a prerequisite for Indonesia to host international equestrian championships.
Market value expected to reach US$1.73 billion by 2035
