SARGA.CO – Among Japan’s legendary racehorses, Liberty Island stands as an unforgettable figure — both in the real world and in the virtual realm of Uma Musume Pretty Derby. Born on February 2, 2020, this bay filly not only captivated horse racing fans with her dazzling achievements but also inspired a beloved Uma Musume character that has touched millions of hearts.
Liberty Island came from an exceptional bloodline — sired by Duramente, the legendary son of Admire Groove, and out of Yankee Rose. Her elegant bay appearance caught attention from the very beginning.
Trained by Mitsumasa Nakauchida at the Ritto Training Center in Japan, she faced fierce rivals such as Stars on Earth and Equinox. Partnered with her loyal jockey, Yuga Kawada, Liberty Island was known for her Sashi/Closer strategy — patiently staying in the middle of the pack before unleashing a breathtaking final burst down the stretch to claim victory dramatically.
Her career was nothing short of brilliant: 5 wins and 4 runner-up finishes from 12 races between 2022 and 2025, earning nearly ¥1 billion (¥989,199,200) — a testament to her outstanding quality.
Her crowning glory came with back-to-back G1 victories, including the Hanshin Juvenile Fillies (2022) and the 2023 Triple Tiara — the Oka Shō, Yūshun Himba, and Shūka Shō. As Japan’s 7th Triple Tiara Queen, she carried on the legacy of Daring Tact and solidified her place as an icon of Japanese racing.
Tragically, at the peak of her fame, Liberty Island suffered a fatal injury during the Queen Elizabeth II Cup in Hong Kong on April 27, 2025, leading to her euthanasia at just five years old. Her death left deep sorrow among fans but also elevated her to the status of a revered legend whose spirit endures forever.
Liberty Island also appears as a character in Uma Musume Pretty Derby — the popular game and anime that brings legendary racehorses to life as energetic, spirited young girls. In the Uma Musume universe, she is portrayed with a strong, charismatic personality, embodying the same speed, elegance, and tactical brilliance that defined her real-world career.
Her portrayal in Uma Musume not only cements her popularity but also introduces her inspiring story to younger audiences and new fans beyond the traditional racing community. Her character stands as a symbol of perseverance, passion, and love for the sport of horse racing.
