SARGA.CO – Thailand has once again captured the hearts of anime lovers and sports-entertainment fans. This time it’s not about an idol concert or a typical pop-culture festival, but a wild and brilliant idea: a cosplay footrace inspired by Uma Musume: Pretty Derby—and it’s happening on an actual horse-racing track!
The Royal Bangkok Sports Club (RBSC), one of Thailand’s oldest and most prestigious racing venues, announced it will host an Uma Musume–themed cosplay sprint on September 14, 2025. This isn’t a gimmicky parade—it’s a bona fide race on the same lush turf where thoroughbreds normally thunder past the stands.
Participants will dash 150 meters dressed as characters from the hit Japanese game-anime franchise Uma Musume, which brings legendary racehorses like Haru Urara, Gold Ship, and Winning Ticket back to life in adorable human form.
RBSC had already dipped its hooves into the Uma Musume craze when more than 450 cosplayers swarmed the Queen’s Cup in early August. That was just a mid-race sideshow, but videos of the “anime horses” instantly went viral across social media.
The overwhelming enthusiasm convinced RBSC to level up—turning what was once a lighthearted parade into a full-on competitive event.
The prize purse is modest—about 3,000 baht (roughly US $85) for first place, 2,000 baht for second, and 1,000 baht for third—but contestants aren’t in it for the cash. The real thrill lies in sprinting under the spotlight on a professional racetrack, channeling their favorite characters before a roaring crowd.
Running where champion horses usually race, while embodying beloved anime personalities, is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Uma Musume: Pretty Derby is more than a game or anime; it’s a cultural bridge that’s reigniting interest in horse racing among younger generations. Through charming characters with unique backstories drawn from real racing legends, the franchise has turned casual viewers into passionate fans of the sport.
Thailand’s cosplay sprint proves a bigger point: Japanese pop culture has become a global connector. It unites fans from different countries, languages, and backgrounds through shared love for the same characters.
Who knows—soon racetracks around the world might host their own Uma Musume cosplay runs.
These racers may not have four legs or thoroughbred bloodlines, but in this extraordinary event each cosplayer is a champion in their own right—running for dreams, costumes, and the pure joy of crossing the finish line. Thailand has truly found the perfect blend of kawaii spirit and athletic sweat on the turf.
