SARGA.CO – A historic moment unfolded at the Rihi Eti Prailiu Horse Racing Field in Waingapu when Aryo PS Djojohadikusumo, Chairman of PP Pordasi (the Indonesian Equestrian Sports Association), set foot for the first time in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) to witness the NTT Traditional Horse Race / Pangdam IX Udayana Cup 2025 on Sunday, October 25, 2025.
His arrival was warmly welcomed by thousands of spectators, horse racing participants, and local enthusiasts, creating an atmosphere filled with pride and enthusiasm.
“This is a great honor for us in NTT. The presence of PP Pordasi Chairman, Mr. Aryo PS Djojohadikusumo, symbolizes the synergy between the national and regional levels in developing equestrian sports in NTT,” said Jerry Manafe, Chairman of Pordasi NTT Provincial Board, as quoted from Pordasi.id on Monday, October 27, 2025.
Aryo PS Djojohadikusumo expressed his admiration for the excitement and energy of both participants and spectators who packed the stands and racing area. He emphasized that traditional horse racing is not merely a competition, but also a reflection of unity among the people of NTT.
“It’s amazing to see such passion. PP Pordasi and the government are committed to supporting equestrian development, particularly in NTT. Alhamdulillah, according to a report from the East Sumba Military District Commander, 106 young men from East Sumba have successfully passed the selection to become 2025 Cavalry Soldiers,” Aryo said.
The NTT Traditional Horse Race / Pangdam IX Udayana Cup 2025 is a remarkable collaboration between the East Sumba Regency Government, Pordasi East Sumba Branch, and the 1601/East Sumba Military District Command, led directly by Lt. Col. Inf. Dobby Noviyanto.
The championship featured 786 horses from various regions of NTT, with qualifying rounds held from October 14–23, 2025, culminating in the finals on October 25, where competitors raced in 15 categories based on horse age groups.
East Sumba Regent Umbu Lili Pekuwali highlighted that traditional horse racing is an integral part of NTT’s cultural heritage, existing long before modern competitions. He noted that the event serves not only as a sports competition but also as an economic opportunity for the local community.
“Horse breeding is part of our culture. This championship helps top-quality horses find buyers at good prices and creates business opportunities for local MSMEs. Next year, we hope to hold the East Sumba Traditional Horse Race at least three times a year. We encourage breeders to maintain and improve the quality of their horses,” said Umbu Lili.
With the presence of the PP Pordasi Chairman and the passionate participation of thousands of spectators, the NTT Traditional Horse Race / Pangdam IX Udayana Cup 2025 became more than just a sporting event — it was a celebration of culture, community spirit, and the potential of East Sumba’s younger generation.
