SARGA.CO – Brave Heart, the 2007 Indonesian Derby champion, is one of the most legendary racehorses from North Sulawesi who left an unforgettable mark on Indonesia’s racing tracks. The name “Brave Heart” itself means “brave heart” in English, and was likely inspired by the 1995 Scottish historical film about struggle.
Brave Heart was a G4-bred racehorse, born from the sire Pargata King (TB USA) and the dam Prima Rita (G3). This Jragem-colored horse was kept by Kharisma Stable and owned by Lt. Gen. (Ret.) E.E. Mangindaan, S.E., trained by Toni Rumambi, and ridden by jockey T. Pantouw, also known as Trully Pantouw.
According to Toni Rumambi, Brave Heart had an upright posture and a long mane that looked majestic when he ran, like a flag fluttering in the wind. His left eye was white or light blue, giving him a unique character that made him stand out.
His mentality was described as soldier-like: confident, focused, and calm. Though fierce on the track, he was gentle and obedient off it.
Track Strategy and Achievements
As a natural front runner from his early career, Brave Heart usually drew gate number 1, maintaining the lead from the start all the way to the finish.
In the 2007 Indonesian Derby, Brave Heart faced fierce competition from his rival, Saud, who started from gate number 3. When Saud attempted to overtake him, Brave Heart pushed harder and won by a margin of about two horse lengths.
Beyond the 2007 Derby, Brave Heart also recorded outstanding achievements, becoming champion of Star of Stars 2008 and Super Sprint 2009.
