SARGA.CO—Cheers erupted across the Sultan Agung Horse Racing Track in Bantul, Yogyakarta, as King Argentin was officially crowned champion of Indonesia’s Horse Racing (IHR) Indonesia Derby 2025 in the 3-Year-Old Derby “Indonesia Derby” – 2,000 M category.
Beyond the euphoria of witnessing a Triple Crown winner emerge after 11 years of waiting, the prestigious race event brought with it countless stories and surprises that unfolded on the track.
The peak of the horse racing season took place successfully on July 27, 2025, at Lapangan Pacuan Kuda Sultan Agung in Bantul, Yogyakarta. A total of 156 horses competed in 18 action-packed races. The event delivered thrilling speed battles that sent adrenaline soaring among thousands of spectators in the stands and many more watching live via SARGA.CO’s YouTube channel.
Of all the races, the 3-Year-Old Derby, “Indonesia Derby” – 2,000 meters, was the most anticipated. It wasn’t just the deciding leg for the coveted Triple Crown, but it also featured top contenders. Names like King Argentin, Wonder Land, Princess Gavi, and a promising newcomer from West Sumatra, Romantic Spartan, lined up at the starting gate.
In that class, King Argentin remained consistent in leading the pack. He ultimately brought home one of the most prestigious titles in the history of Indonesian horse racing: the Triple Crown.
The last Triple Crown title was won by Djohar Manik back in 2014. After 11 years, the crown finally returned and now rests on King Argentin’s legacy.
Not surprising that this victory became the center of attention in both the real and digital worlds of horse racing. King Argentin’s achievement also captured the interest of a wider audience, especially among younger fans of the Uma Musume franchise.
King Argentin’s victory at the IHR: Indonesia Derby 2025 was no overnight success. From the start of the season, the horse—descended from the legendary Secretariat bloodline—had already been turning heads.
Still, many questioned his endurance over the 2,000-meter track. But those doubts gradually faded thanks to his consistent performances in the first two legs of the Triple Crown Series, where King Argentin always finished first. Naturally, Jemmy Runtu’s strategic command played a crucial role in keeping King Argentin at the front.
Looking back at IHR: Triple Crown Series 1, King Argentin lost control and drifted wide in the first turn, falling far behind his main rival, Wonder Land. But with extraordinary speed, he overtook his competitors one by one and claimed first place in a tight duel over the final 200 meters.
In IHR: Triple Crown Series 2, King Argentin and Jemmy Runtu maintained their form and secured another win, bringing them one step closer to the historic Triple Crown title.
Their consistency stemmed from the well-crafted strategies of King Halim Stable. Rather than pushing for dominance early in the season, they focused on preserving King Argentin’s stamina, building peak performance gradually, executing precise strategies, and keeping the horse mentally composed under immense public pressure.
On race day, that strategy was on full display. Jemmy Runtu, entrusted with guiding King Argentin, refused to be lured by the early fast pace. He held his position mid-pack, letting rivals expend energy too soon.
This approach subtly reinforced King Argentin’s strength as a late-run specialist. Utilizing a Midpack Stalker strategy, he mastered the track with precision.
King Argentin didn’t show dominance early in the race. Sidney All Star initially led out of the starting gate, followed closely by other top contenders like Wonder Land and Princess Gavi, forming a heated front group. Meanwhile, King Argentin calmly held fifth position.
Everything changed on the final turn. As other horses began to lose steam, King Argentin surged like a bullet—strong, precise, and unstoppable to the finish line.
His acceleration over the last 400 meters was truly impressive. In mere seconds, he left his closest rivals behind and completed the race with a two-length lead. The crowd rose to their feet, thunderous applause filling the air.
King Argentin crossed the finish line first, followed by Princess Gavi—a stablemate who performed solidly throughout the race. In third place, Romantic Spartan stole the spotlight as a newcomer from West Sumatra, successfully breaking into the national championship podium.
Previously, Wonder Land was considered King Argentin’s most closely-watched rival. The Rama Sinta Stable racehorse had consistently trailed King Argentin in second place during the two prior series, IHR: Triple Crown Series 1 and Series 2.
Wonder Land’s reputation as King Argentin’s strongest competitor also stemmed from a major achievement, defeating King Argentin in Kejuaraan Nasional Pacuan Kuda Seri 01 Indonesia Derby 2024 for the 2-Year-Old Beginner Class A/B – 1,400 meters.
In that race, Wonder Land finished first, while King Argentin had to settle for third place. However, in a surprising twist at IHR: Indonesia Derby 2025, Wonder Land slipped down to fourth place.
In contrast, Romantic Spartan delivered an impressive performance, securing third place—a remarkable achievement for a racehorse making its debut at the national level.
Romantic Spartan is no stranger to the racetrack. Hailing from West Sumatra, this racehorse has proven its consistency through a string of prestigious regional wins. From clinching first place in the Beginner Class A/B at the Wali Kota Bukittinggi Cup in July 2024 to conquering the Sawahlunto Derby as champion in December 2024.
That dominance continued earlier this year with another first-place finish at the Wali Kota Payakumbuh Derby Cup in February 2025. Representing San Marino Stable, the horse extended its winning streak at the Wisata Derby Bukittinggi Agam in May 2025.
Her debut on Java Island’s racetrack through the national championship proved to be a sweet success. Romantic Spartan secured third place in the qualifying round of the Indonesia Derby for the 3-Year-Old Derby Heat I – 2,000 meters, held on July 13, 2025.
Many eyes were also on Princess Gavi, the junior filly from the same stable as King Argentin. Early in the race, she adopted a similar strategy—holding back and staying calm amidst the pressure from other horses fighting for the lead.
As the race approached the final turn, Princess Gavi took control of the middle lane, creating space for King Argentin to surge forward from the outside and seize the front position. Just as agile, Princess Gavi accelerated and secured an impressive second-place finish.
Beyond the on-track action, IHR: Indonesia Derby 2025 delivered an experience far greater than just a race. It brought stories, surprises, and a new history forged through grit and strategy.
From the long-awaited return of the Triple Crown title after 11 years to Romantic Spartan’s breakout performance that disrupted the dominance of established champions, these moments marked a new chapter in Indonesian horse racing.
Now, all eyes are on the seasons to come. Who will rise next to challenge the throne?
