SARGA.CO—The spotlight of the Indonesian horse racing world is on Kubu Gadang Racecourse, Payakumbuh, West Sumatra. The prestigious Indonesia’s Horse Racing Cup II officially took place on Sunday, September 28, 2025.
As part of The Race of Rising Stars series, this race presents 13 racing classes. The competition is divided into three main categories, including Age Group, Height Group, and the Traditional Draft Bogie Race, which makes the Indonesia’s Horse Racing Cup II even more special.
All the action was recorded on the Kubu Gadang track, which measures 900 meters in length and 12 meters in width. It is on this track that hundreds of spectators will witness 67 of the best horses ready to race for a total prize of Rp425 million in prestigious classes.
In the Age Group category, there is a series of prestigious races. The main spotlight falls on the 3-Year-Old Derby Prospect Division I Class over a distance of 1,400 meters with a prize of Rp85 million and the 3-Year-Old Juvenile Division I Class with a distance of 1,200 meters with an award of Rp75 million.
Meanwhile, the Height Group category offers fast and intense tension. With the presence of the 1,200-meter-long Open Class E race with a prize of Rp20 million, spectators are invited to feel the adrenaline along the track.
No less awaited is the Traditional Race or Draft Bogie category. This category presents three iconic races, including the 2,400-meter-long New Draft Bogie Class, the 3,200-meter-long Old New Draft Bogie Class, and the 3,200-meter-long Old Draft Bogie Class.
More than just a speed race, Draft Bogie is a strong symbol of how the sport of horse racing in Minangkabau remains rooted in tradition.
Of course, this equestrian tradition is inseparable from the origin of its name. The word "Draft" refers to a carriage or pulling tool, while "Bogie" is a two-wheeled wooden cart.
Initially, Draft Bogie was part of the lives of farmers and traders. Over time, this tradition developed into folk entertainment during harvest festivals. Until finally it entered the official horse racing event.
In this traditional race, horses run while pulling a wooden bogie ridden by a jockey. The track can reach 3,200 meters, making the strength and endurance of the horse more prioritized than sprint speed.
In addition, the Kubu Gadang Racecourse arena is getting more lively with the presence of the Horseback Archery (HBA) Show, an equestrian sport that highlights agility and accuracy. In this attraction, athletes must precisely shoot targets while riding a horse running on the track.
The presence of the HBA Show and the Draft Bogie Class at the Indonesia's Horse Racing Cup II aims to introduce the public to other equestrian sports besides horse racing itself. That way, the entire equestrian sports branch is increasingly widely known and is expected to become a shared pride.
For spectators who attend in person, SARGA.CO provides two ticket categories. The Tribune ticket for Rp50,000 includes a racebook (while supplies last). Meanwhile, Regular tickets are priced at Rp10,000, with the racebook sold separately for Rp30,000. However, the Regular ticket price already includes bottled water.
Spectators who bring children with a height of less than 100 cm get a 50 percent discount for the Tribune ticket category, which is only available On the Spot.
Besides the paid ticket categories, there is also a free spot to watch horse racing in the area around MSMEs. That way, the public can still enjoy the atmosphere and excitement of the event.
