SARGA.CO – Minahasa, North Sulawesi, is not only known for producing skilled jockeys and top trainers on Indonesia’s national horse racing scene. Beyond that, the region has now emerged as a breeding ground for champion horses that dominate prestigious racetracks across the country.
According to a post from Pacuan Kuda Tompaso Sulawesi Utara on Facebook, in the midst of dominance from other regions that usually rule the tracks, these three horses have become symbols of the resurgence of North Sulawesi’s power as the new epicenter of Indonesia’s horse breeding industry. They have not only won a few races but also achieved outstanding victories in major events such as the Indonesia Derby, National Championships (Kejurnas), and PON (National Sports Week).
Raised by Mario Bahar of Bendang Stable (Pinabetengan, Tompaso), King of Istana is now considered Indonesia’s number one racehorse in the long-distance category.
Achievements:
1st Place – Open Class 2,000 meters, Jateng Derby 2025
Champion – Sawahlunto Derby, West Sumatra, breaking the myth that horses from outside the region couldn’t win there
Consecutive victories over Bintang Maja (December), Queen Thalasa (January), and Triple SS (February)
Bred at Hein Rori’s farm in West Tompaso, Bintang Maja is a powerful sprinter and a star on fast tracks.
Achievements:
1st Place – Open Sprint Class 1,300 meters, Jateng Derby 2025
Gold Medal – PON 2024 (Class B)
Champion – Indonesia Derby 2023, marking his greatest triumph so far
Bintang Maja stands as proof that North Sulawesi’s horses excel not only in long-distance races but also dominate short-distance sprints.
Raised by Prima Sion Stable (Touure, West Tompaso), Triple SS has earned a reputation as the “shadow horse” — rarely the top favorite but almost always among the top three finishers.
Achievements:
2nd Place – Open Class 2,000 meters, Jateng Derby (behind King of Istana)
1st Place – Kawilarang Cup 2024, defeating Queen Thalasa
1st Place – Three Crowns Cup Series 2, Class A, 2,000 meters
Although Triple SS is no longer owned by a North Sulawesi stable, the horse remains a symbol of Minahasan pride, as both his lineage and training originated in Tompaso.
The success of these three horses is not merely the result of intense training — it also reflects the strength of Minahasa’s breeding system. The Tompaso area and its surroundings are now rightfully regarded as the “heart of Indonesia’s thoroughbred breeding industry.”
Minahasa is no longer just a source of talented jockeys — it has become a producer of champion horses. In a world of racing defined by prestige and fierce competition, these three horses stand as proof that North Sulawesi’s local bloodlines can compete at the highest level.
