SARGA.CO – His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, the Supreme Pontiff of the Catholic Church, has received a special gift — a purebred Arabian horse — from Andrzej Michalski, a Polish breeder and founder of the Michalski Stud Farm, during the General Audience on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.
The elegant white stallion adds to the list of symbolic gifts the Pope has received in recent months, which previously included a white motorcycle and an electric car.
According to Vatican News, Michalski, who owns a stable in Kołobrzeg-Budzistowo, Poland, said the gift was inspired by a photograph of the then-Augustinian Pope riding a horse in Peru.
Michalski told Vatican News.
Michalski explained that the gift was his way of expressing gratitude and responding to the Pope’s call to strengthen love through concrete action.
The horse, named Proton, has impressive lineage — its sire comes from the United States, while its dam was purchased from a Jordanian princess. Born in Janów Podlaski, Proton was acquired by Michalski as a young colt and raised at his stud farm.
“He moves beautifully and is a very handsome horse,” the breeder said proudly.
The Michalski Stud Farm is not only dedicated to horse breeding, training, and competition; it also operates a hippotherapy center, a form of therapy that uses the rhythmic movements of horses to stimulate the sensory, neuromotor, and cognitive systems.
“When I work with people with disabilities, hippotherapy sessions are held at Andrzej Michalski’s riding center. This therapy is truly a blessing, especially for children with physical disabilities,” said Anna Mieczkowska, the Mayor of Kołobrzeg, who also attended the audience at the Vatican.
Michalski added that the center holds major equestrian competitions and conducts hippotherapy sessions for people with disabilities two to three times a week.
“We’re currently preparing a small national championship next month — for children with disabilities who will ride wooden horses,” he shared.
Reflecting on the encounter, Michalski said that the Pope appeared joyful upon receiving the horse.
“We led the horse together. He was very happy, and so were we,” he recalled warmly.
During the meeting, a letter was also read to the Holy Father, outlining the activities of the Michalski Stud Farm and requesting a special blessing for its upcoming 30th anniversary.
Michalski wrote in his letter to the Pope, referencing the Pope’s latest Apostolic Exhortation.
