SARGA.CO—The spotlight in Indonesia’s horse racing world is currently fixed on two standout names—King Argentin and Wonder Land. With both considered evenly matched, the much-anticipated showdown is expected to be more than just a test of speed. It will be a battle of strategy, rider synergy, and unshakable nerves.
Though coming from different backgrounds, King Argentin and Wonder Land have both built impressive reputations on the track. Their prestigious records make it nearly impossible for fans and analysts alike to confidently predict who will emerge victorious in the 2025 Indonesia Derby. Here's a closer look at the profiles of these two contenders.
Known as one of the rising stars on the racetrack, King Argentin is a dark bay stallion born from championship bloodlines—a cross between sire Agrippa and dam Princess Missoni.
Representing the powerhouse King Halim Stable, King Argentin combines explosive power with remarkable stamina—traits that have been consistent since his debut in 2023. Under the guidance of owner Kusnadi Halim, he has earned a reputation as a "serious threat" in every race he enters.
His superior genetics and sharp racing instincts have made him a nearly unstoppable force on the track.
This was proven when King Argentin secured the runner-up position at Kejuaraan Nasional Pacuan Kuda Seri 01 Indonesia Derby 2024 in the 2-Year-Old Novice Class A/B – 1,400 meters, reaffirming his consistency on the competitive stage. Even in the prestigious event of Le Minerale Piala Ketua Umum PP Pordasi 2024–2028, Class 3 Derby Div I — 1,600 meters, he finished in second place.
Entering his second year since his debut, King Argentin’s performance has shown remarkable maturity. He clinched first place at the A.E. Kawilarang Memorial Cup 2025, Class 3 Three-Year-Old Derby — 1,600 meters. This positive streak continued as he emerged victorious in both the 2025 Triple Crown Series 1 and 2, alongside his trusted jockey, Jemmy Runtu.
In the qualifying round of Indonesia’s Horse Racing: Indonesia Derby 2025, Class 3 Three-Year-Old Derby Heat I — 2,000 meters, King Argentin remained unbeaten and secured first place, followed by Padagi NSL in second, and Romatic Spartan in third.
These achievements bring him one step closer to making history as the next Triple Crown titleholder in the country, provided he triumphs once again in the final of Indonesia’s Horse Racing: Indonesia Derby 2025.
Born from champion bloodlines—the perfect blend of sire Dubai’s Choice and dam Wonder Woman—Wonder Land is no ordinary young racehorse. Representing Rama Sinta Stable, the Jakarta-based filly has been making her presence known in every race she enters. Under the meticulous guidance of trainer Lili Momuat, Wonder Land is known for her explosive acceleration and razor-sharp instincts on the track.
Although still relatively new to the racing scene, Wonder Land wasted no time proving her worth. At the 58th Pordasi National Horse Racing Championship “Indonesia Derby 2024”, she delivered a strong podium finish in the 2-Year-Old Novice A/B – 1,400 meters class.
Just a few months later, in November 2024, Wonder Land once again shone brightly at the Pordasi National Championship Series I, taking first place in the 3-Year-Old Derby – 1,400 meters Division I category.
Most recently, she added another milestone by securing second place in both Triple Crown Series I and II—a feat that solidified her reputation as one of the most talked-about horses this season, especially among Indonesia’s top trainers.
When interviewed by SARGA.CO, Farooq Ali Khan, the trainer behind King Argentin, showed calm confidence about his horse’s chances in the upcoming 2025 Indonesia Derby Championship. Having already claimed two major wins, Farooq believes King Argentin is more than ready for what lies ahead.
“No, I don’t have any pressure. For me, I’m relaxed. I know that my horse can give the best, and I feel like normal,” said Farooq.
His optimism is further boosted by the presence of seasoned jockey Jemmy Runtu, who has been a key part of King Argentin’s dominance. According to Farooq, their chemistry on the track greatly increases the chances of clinching the Triple Crown title.
As King Argentin’s jockey, Jemmy Runtu emphasized that the stallion’s strength allowed them to stay ahead of the pack, even on rain-slicked tracks.
Still, Jemmy acknowledged that Wonder Land, who was running closely behind them at the time, was not to be underestimated. The dark bay filly repeatedly attempted to overtake King Argentine during the race’s most crucial moments.
“Wonder Land kept trying to catch up. But Argentine stayed strong enough to maintain the lead until the finish,” Jemmy explained.
Despite their confidence, both Farooq and Jemmy agree that the final race in Indonesia’s Horse Racing (IHR): Indonesia Derby 2025 will be no easy task—it will require full focus and preparation.
“I’ll increase the training and I’ll see how the other participants are preparing,” Farooq added.
Jemmy also admitted that, even with his years of experience, the nerves are still there, especially with the Triple Crown title on the line.
“What matters now is staying consistent in our training,” he said.
In a separate interview, the owner of Wonder Land, Dedi Novaldi, shared how impressed he’s been with his filly’s temperament and talent. According to him, Wonder Land is calm and obedient, but fierce on the track.
“It was completely unexpected. I’m thrilled. First time owning a racehorse, and it turns out to be this promising, and even wins races? It’s amazing, I’m so proud,” Dedi shared.
Despite being a newcomer, Wonder Land has shown an impressive performance. Right out of the gate, she surged into the front pack. Although she drifted slightly wide in the first turn, she managed to recover and keep her momentum toward the final stretch.
However, it wasn’t enough to secure the win. In the last 200 meters, King Argentin came storming past, snatching the lead in a dramatic finish.
“King Argentin came in so fast. Honestly, I couldn’t believe it. She was overtaken so close to the finish line,” Dedi recalled.
Though Wonder Land won’t have a shot at the Triple Crown, Dedi is hopeful she’ll still bring home the Indonesia Derby title.
“Even if she can’t win the Triple Crown, I just hope Wonder Land stays healthy and performs her best in the Derby,” he said.
Whatever the outcome, the entire team at Rama Sinta Stable remains proud of what Wonder Land has accomplished so far.
The upcoming Indonesia’s Horse Racing (IHR): Indonesia Derby 2025 sets the stage for a classic showdown—King Argentin, the undeniable frontrunner, versus Wonder Land, the rising underdog who has captured the attention of the nation.
On one side stands King Argentin, carrying a reputation of dominance and two major victories as he chases the final jewel in the Triple Crown. On the other hand, Wonder Land races with the fierce determination of a newcomer out to prove she belongs among the elite.
In terms of strategy, performance, and experience, King Argentine has the edge. But Wonder Land remains a wild card—especially if unpredictable track conditions or critical race moments shift the momentum.
This final race is not just about who’s the fastest—it’s about who’s the most prepared: physically, technically, and mentally. With both stables fine-tuning their tactics and their horses in peak condition, Indonesia’s Horse Racing: Indonesia Derby 2025 promises a finish that fans won’t soon forget.
