SARGA.CO – Beneath the roar of the crowd and the thunder of hooves on the racetrack lies an invisible drama—one that unfolds with every race.
says Ardhi Wijaya, head trainer at BHM Stable and Adem Ayem Stable, who will be fielding his top horses at the Indonesia Horse Racing Cup (IHR Cup) 2025 on Sunday, June 15, 2025.
For Ardhi and many other trainers, every championship is far more than a race against the clock. It is a mental, emotional, and deeply personal challenge—one that demands heart, focus, and resilience.
Ardhi confesses.
Unlike race cars, which can be monitored through precise electronic data, a racehorse’s condition is judged through instinct and the trainer’s deep sensitivity.
"A horse isn’t like a car—there’s no tool that can predict its performance with certainty. Everything depends on intuition—reading the horse’s body language, eyes, and breathing. That’s what makes it such an emotional struggle," he adds.
Not only do the trainers feel the emotional rollercoaster, but grooms—the people who care for the horses every single day—face the same pressure.
"We give a part of our soul to these horses. As race day nears, we’re all ‘fighting’ in the WhatsApp group—cheering each other on, sometimes throwing playful jabs," Ardhi jokes.
Though they remain behind the scenes, grooms are the ones who understand every breath and stride of their horses. When victory comes, tears often flow—a testament to the effort and love poured in.
he says.
Interestingly, the emotional battle ends the moment the horses cross the finish line.
"Supportive trainers usually come over right away to congratulate the winning trainer and horse. That’s the beauty of horse racing—fierce on the track, but warm beyond it," says the Bantul native with a smile.
They are the queens who rule the battlefield.
