SARGA.CO – Behind the spotlight and the roar of the racetrack crowd lies one place that holds the key to every champion racehorse’s success—the stable, or training barn.
But don’t picture an ordinary barn. Professional racehorse stables are premium facilities designed for maximum comfort, health, and performance.
Each horse typically has its own stall, measuring around 3x3 to 4x4 meters. The walls are often padded with soft materials or rubber to prevent injury while the horse moves around.
The stall floor is covered with clean straw or special wood shavings, replaced daily to ensure comfort and reduce moisture buildup.
Champion horses follow specialized diets. They consume a mix of high-quality hay, oats, vitamins, and supplements to maintain stamina. Some stables even use automated feeders that dispense food on schedule and in precise portions.
Larger stables usually feature both indoor and outdoor training arenas, complete with sand or grass tracks, jumping obstacles (for show jumping), and long tracks for endurance or sprint workouts. Some are equipped with automatic horse walkers for warm-up and cool-down routines.
After training, horses head to the grooming area. Here they are bathed with special shampoos, brushed until clean and glossy, and have their hooves trimmed regularly. They can even receive massage therapy or infrared treatments to aid muscle recovery!
Professional stables have dedicated medical rooms complete with on-call veterinarians, tendon and respiratory monitoring tools, and even a small lab. Routine check-ups ensure horses are in top condition before they compete.
A horse’s mental well-being is just as important. Stable environments are kept quiet and peaceful. At night, classical music is sometimes played to calm the horses. In some setups, horses are positioned to face each other to prevent loneliness.
When all eyes were on the race favorites, Mine That Bird came in as the ultimate underdog.
