SARGA.CO – In the world of horse racing, a name can spark conversation not only for a horse’s achievements but also for the grin it brings.
That’s exactly the case with Ayya Saphina, a 3-year-old filly who turns heads not just for her speed on the track but for her quirky, funny name.
The name Ayya Saphina makes people raise an eyebrow and chuckle. In Sundanese, “Ayya” means “there is,” while “Saphina” sounds a lot like “sapinya,” which means “the cow.” Put together, it’s as if her name says: “There’s the cow!”
Despite the amusing wordplay, Ayya Saphina is all business on the racetrack.
Born in Cilacap on July 25, 2022, she’s the offspring of Babary and Miss Udanawu, sporting a coat color known locally as napas (a warm reddish-brown shade).
Owned by Hj. Olis, Ayya Saphina proved her quality at the Indonesia’s Horse Racing (IHR) Merdeka Cup 2025 held at Legok Jawa, Pangandaran, West Java.
Competing in Class H – 1,000 meters, she claimed an impressive third-place finish amid tough competition among young racehorses.
Ayya Saphina shows that horse racing isn’t only about raw speed.
Culture, creativity, and humor also gallop alongside.
Her name adds extra charm—especially fitting since she represents Jagal Sapi Stable (“Butcher’s Cow Stable”), whose background naturally inspires such witty naming.
It’s no surprise that a name like Ayya Saphina draws spectators’ curiosity. And when the horse herself races with grit and promise, the story becomes even more delightful.
