SARGA.CO – The atmosphere at the Legok Jawa Horse Racing Arena in Pangandaran became even more vibrant when former Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Susi Pudjiastuti, appeared among the spectators of Indonesia’s Horse Racing (IHR) – Merdeka Cup 2025 on Sunday, August 24, 2025.
With her signature flair for style, Susi stood out in an olive-green shirt, brown vest, matching hat, and dark sunglasses, giving her the look of a character straight out of a modern cowboy film.
Accompanied by Aryo PS Djojohadikusumo, Chairman of the Indonesian Equestrian Sports Association (PP Pordasi), Susi looked thoroughly entertained as she enjoyed the races on a track often hailed as one of the most beautiful in the world, set dramatically against the backdrop of the Indian Ocean.
In a surprise twist, Susi even tried her hand as a guest race commentator, adding to the festive spirit of an event attended by thousands of spectators from across the country.
“I’ve been riding horses since I was little, but only along the beach, never in competitions,” Susi recalled with a nostalgic smile, reminiscing about her childhood spent riding by the shores of Ketapang Doyong, Pangandaran.
Though she never ventured into horse racing herself, her love for horses is undeniable. “My uncle used to own two horses, Willi and Leo. They were regular champions,” she said, fondly recalling the family’s equestrian legacy.
Susi also expressed her admiration for the crowd’s enthusiasm. Thousands of locals flocked to the trackside, eager to witness the thunder of hooves as the racehorses sprinted across the sandy turf by the sea.
With blue skies, crashing waves, and Pangandaran’s coastal panorama as a backdrop, the races became more than just a competition of speed. They transformed into a stage that blended sport, culture, and lifestyle—a spectacle made even more captivating with the presence of an icon like Susi Pudjiastuti.
