Legend of Milord Immortalized as Milord Jr Rises to Carry the Torch

SARGA.CO – The legacy of Milord, the legendary racehorse from Minahasa, lives on in a striking statue now standing tall in the heart of Tompaso Barat’s five-way intersection, North Sulawesi.

The monument was officially unveiled by Minahasa Regent Robby Dondokambey and Vice Regent Vanda Sarundajang on Thursday, June 5, 2025, as a tribute to the champion who brought pride to the region.

“This horse has truly inspired breeders and racehorse owners across Minahasa,” said Regent Robby in his address.

The statue was an initiative by North Sulawesi’s horse racing community to honor Milord’s unwavering dedication, competitive spirit, and remarkable speed on the racetrack.

“Let this monument be a reminder that Minahasa continues to produce proud and powerful racehorses,”

added Regent Robby.

The unveiling was attended by representatives from the national equestrian federation (PP Pordasi), Pordasi North Sulawesi chapter, and regional government officials.

Milord was no ordinary racehorse. Born on January 16, 2022, at Bendang Stable in Tompaso Barat, the small-framed horse quickly stole the spotlight with his dazzling performances. He racked up several national titles, making him a household name among horse racing enthusiasts.

However, his shining career was cut short by tragedy. During the Central Java Derby in February 2025, Milord suffered a fatal accident that also injured his jockey, Jones Paendong.
The incident ended his career just as he was poised to make history at the national championship level.

“We were devastated. Milord was so close to reaching greatness. That accident ended his incredible journey,”
said Mario Bahar, a key figure at Bendang Stable.

Hope lives on at Bendang Stable. Milord Jr, Milord’s younger full brother, is now being trained to follow in his sibling’s hoofprints.
“We hope Milord Jr can continue what his brother started. Milord’s fighting spirit will live on through him, though we know the path ahead won’t be easy,” said Mario.

One key lesson is that horses “speak” through their behavior—and it’s our job to listen.
