SARGA.CO – One of the most legendary racehorses in modern history, American Pharoah — winner of the Triple Crown and Horse of the Year — has been officially announced to stand the 2026 breeding season at The Shizunai Stallion Station in Japan. The move comes as part of a collaboration between Coolmore America and the Japan Bloodhorse Breeders’ Association (JBBA).
The son of Pioneerof the Nile will spend the breeding season in Japan before returning to his home base at Ashford Stud in Kentucky in July 2026.
“We’ve had a long and successful partnership with JBBA through our stallion shuttle program, and we’re delighted that Japanese breeders will now have access to American Pharoah’s exceptional bloodlines,”
said Dermot Ryan, manager of Ashford Stud.
Ryan also revealed that Japan had long expressed interest in purchasing American Pharoah permanently, but both sides eventually reached a win-win agreement through the shuttle stallion arrangement. He added that Pharoah will be accompanied by his trusted groom throughout his stay in Japan.
Although he has never been based in Japan, American Pharoah has already made a remarkable impact there. Of his 88 progeny to have raced in the country, 58 have won, marking an impressive 65% win rate.
Among his standout offspring is Cafe Pharoah, a two-time Grade 1 February Stakes winner and one of Japan’s top dirt performers. To date, American Pharoah has produced nine black-type winners in Japan — solid proof of his world-class genetics and consistent breeding influence.
