SARGA.CO - Indonesian horse racing has lost one of its notable breeding stallions. Touareq, a Thoroughbred at Berkah Stud & Racing Stable in West Sumatra, died on Tuesday, 6 October 2026, at the age of 22. His passing marks the end of a long life closely connected with the development of Thoroughbred racing and breeding in West Sumatra. Although Touareq is no longer at the breeding farm, his influence will continue through the horses he left behind.

From Java to West Sumatra
Touareq was originally based at a stable in Pamulang before changing ownership and moving to Tegalwaton. Berkah Stud & Racing Stable eventually acquired him as West Sumatra was facing a shortage of suitable stallions for its breeding programme.
Touareq was the son of P. Sabeil, a New Zealand Thoroughbred, and Star Sovereign, an Indonesian Thoroughbred. After joining Berkah Stud & Racing Stable, he spent yearscontributing to the next generation of racehorses in the region.

His final years were affected by declining physical condition. According to Berkah Stud & Racing Stable owner Ibnu Faris, Touareq's left hip and pelvic area had weakened considerably, accompanied by muscle loss that made him unable to stand again.
For a stallion, however, a career does not necessarily end with his final day. Touareq's most lasting contribution can be found in the horses that carry his bloodline.
Among his better-known offspring are Sir Orbit, Guti Spirit, Nilam Bukati, Cahaya Delima and Zara Dynamite, while PORDASI records also list horses such as Lang Lang Jagad T.A. as a son of Touareq.

The Indonesian Stud Book likewise records numerous Touareq offspring, illustrating the breadth of his contribution as a sire. Its database lists Guti Spirit among his offspring, alongside dozens of other horses sharing Touareq as their sire.
That makes Touareq's death more than the passing of an individual stallion. His genetic legacy remains active on Indonesian racetracks and in breeding programmes, particularly through the generations that follow his direct offspring.

The story of Indonesian horse racing is built not only around those that win its biggest races, but also around the stallions and mares that shape generations of runners. Touareq was one of those horses.
From his early years in Java to his later role at Berkah Stud & Racing Stable in West Sumatra, he became part of the effort to strengthen the country's Thoroughbred breeding base. His offspring now carry that story forward.
Touareq may have taken his final breath at 22, but his legacy has not. Every time one of his descendants enters a starting gate, a small part of the stallion who helped shape them will return to the track.
