SARGA.CO – Dragon Runner, a dark brown stallion, was sired by Long War and born from the mare Mahkota Putri Aria. Owned by Kusnadi Halim of King Halim Stable, Dragon Runner etched his name into history as the winner of the 2016 Indonesia Derby at Tegalwaton Racecourse, Salatiga, Central Java.
On the Derby track, Dragon Runner displayed his dominance. As soon as the starting gate opened, he surged ahead, leaving the other horses about 5 meters behind. At the 600-meter mark, Gagah Manglayang from West Java closely chased from behind at a distance of only 2 meters, adding tension to the competition.
However, at the final 200-meter turn, jockey J. Runtu urged him forward with the whip. Dragon Runner increased his speed, pulling farther ahead all the way to the finish line. Second place was taken by Gagah Manglayang and third by Lucky Duta, both from West Java.
This victory confirmed Dragon Runner’s extraordinary qualities: speed, stamina, and a champion’s mentality rarely possessed by other racehorses.
Now, Dragon Runner has retired from racing, but his career journey is far from over. Transitioning into a show jumping athlete, Dragon Runner continued to achieve success, even winning an equestrian championship. This transformation proves that a horse’s quality and superior genetics are not limited to a single sporting discipline.
Dragon Runner is living proof that a legend of the racing track can enter a new chapter, continue to shine, and inspire the Indonesian horse world, both in racing arenas and in equestrian arenas. (Various sources)
