SARGA.CO – Amid the excitement of the 2025 King Hamengku Buwono X Cup at the Sultan Agung Racetrack in Yogyakarta, one moment stood out and brought smiles to the crowd: the appearance of a small white horse named Asahi.
Asahi, a 2-year-old horse standing 128.5 cm tall, competed in the I/J 1,000-meter class at Indonesia’s Horse Racing (IHR) event held on November 9, 2025. With his small size and striking color, he immediately drew attention the moment he entered the arena. But what made Asahi unforgettable wasn’t a podium finish — it was how he completed the race.
Representing King Stable, ridden by jockey Eko Budi Santoso and trained by Rulli Soleran, Asahi experienced a late start as soon as the gates opened. While the other 11 horses bolted forward, Asahi was left behind from the very first stride.
Spectators initially thought he wouldn’t continue the race. But Asahi kept running — slow but steady — maintaining his rhythm as if he were going through a training session.
Finishing Last, Yet Stealing the Spotlight
Even though he lagged far behind, Asahi eventually crossed the finish line with a relaxed demeanor, as if he wasn’t competing in a prestigious national event at all.
And that’s exactly why Asahi became one of the most talked-about horses after the race. Not every horse comes to win; some come to learn, grow, and add character to the racing world.
At just 2 years old, Asahi is still very young in the racing scene. Many horses at that age aren’t even ready to compete. For Asahi, participating in the King’s Cup was simply the first step toward greater experiences.
