PORDASI racing calendar. This championship stands as one of the most prestigious events, bringing together the finest racehorse talents from various provinces across the country.
The Kejuaraan Piala Raja Hamengku Buwono X is an event held to develop the best potential in the national horse racing world. This prestigious competition usually takes place at the end of the year and is categorized as a National-Level Race held in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY).
As the name suggests, this event competes for the honorary trophy from Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X, the 10th Sultan of the Yogyakarta Sultanate, who has reigned since 1989 and has also served as the Governor of DIY since 1998.
The championship was first held in 2009. Since its inaugural staging, the Kejuaraan Piala Raja Hamengku Buwono X has produced several legendary horses that have become symbols of the glory of Indonesian equestrian sport.
Notable examples include Saud, a formidable horse that recorded three consecutive victories. Another name is Queen Thalassa, who successfully defended the honorary trophy for two consecutive years in 2022 and 2023.
Naga Sembilan managed to secure the champion title in 2024, and Triple's as the winner in 2025. This reaffirms the Kejuaraan Piala Raja Hamengku Buwono X's reputation as a proving ground for the country's best horses.
Piala Raja Hamengku Buwono X Championship is an individual-based (non-national championship) competition, meaning it does not use the points system applied in the National Championship series.
The highlight of the event is the Open Class – 2,000 meters, which focuses on the High Group category of racehorses. The fastest horse in this class earns the title of champion and takes home the Hamengku Buwono X Trophy.
In addition to the Open Class, the championship also features several other divisions with varying track distances. Piala Raja Hamengku Buwono X championship also competes in the Age Group with various track distances.
The Hamengku Buwono X Cup plays a vital role in strengthening Indonesia’s horse racing ecosystem. Beyond cultivating top-performing racehorses, the event also helps stimulate the growth of racehorse breeding across the country.
Moreover, it encourages the emergence of new stables to compete at the national level, expanding participation and competitiveness within the sport.
