King Argentine, the stallion representing King Halim Stable, stands on the brink of history as he eyes the prestigious Indonesia Triple Crown title. But the path to the crown won't be easy. Three fierce mares are ready to derail the king’s ambition: Wonder Land, Sidney All Star, and Romantic Spartan.
This shiny black mare, a progeny of Dubai’s Choice x Wonder Women and owned by Rama Sinta Stable, is known for her composure in the gate—never causing trouble at the start. But once the bell rings, her burst of speed becomes a nightmare for her rivals.
Her achievements speak volumes. Since being brought to Java, Wonder Land has racked up wins in the A/B beginner category at the Indonesia Derby and even came close to defeating King Argentine in the second leg of the Triple Crown.
“Even though she didn’t sweep the Triple Crown, Wonder Land remains our top pick for the Derby. She’s ready to surprise,” said owner Dedi Novaldi.
Sidney All Star, a jragem mare proudly owned by Djons Stable, descends from Moshe x Arteda Nagari. She’s known for her powerful acceleration across mid- to long-range distances.
Her lap times in the Indonesia Derby qualifying rounds show remarkable consistency, positioning her as one of the most dangerous threats to King Argentine. With reliable stamina, Sidney All Star is tipped to perform at her peak over the full 2,000 meters.
Sidney has already proven her dominance on the racetrack. After skipping the second leg of the Triple Crown in May, the North Sulawesi-born mare made a stunning comeback at the 2025 Indonesia’s Horse Racing Cup, clinching first place in the 3-Year-Old Derby Prospect Class – 1,850 meters.
3. Romantic Spartan: The Rising Star from Padang Panjang
Romantic Spartan has quickly become the talk of the track. This mare from Padang Panjang, West Sumatra, is owned by San Marino Stable. She previously clinched victory at the 2024 Sawahlunto Derby and has continued to improve since entering the competitive circuits in Java.
In the 2025 Indonesia Derby qualifying round, Romantic Spartan clocked in at 2:20.47—just a fraction behind King Argentine’s 2:20.43. Many now tip her as the dark horse who could shake up the final.
