SARGA.CO – The crashing waves will soon join in rhythm with the thunder of hooves from Indonesia’s finest racehorses. That is the atmosphere that will ignite at the Legok Jawa Racecourse, Pangandaran, West Java, when Indonesia’s Horse Racing (IHR) – Merdeka Cup 2025 officially takes place on Sunday, August 24, 2025.
A total of 86 racehorses from 7 provinces—including DKI Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, West Sumatra, North Sumatra, and North Sulawesi—will compete across 16 racing classes for a total prize of Rp425 million.
But more than just a championship, the IHR–Merdeka Cup 2025 offers a spectacular experience: a national horse race staged on a tropical beachfront, one of only two seaside racetracks in the world. Its location, directly along Madasari Beach in Cimerak District, with the vast Indian Ocean as its backdrop, makes this championship not only about speed, but also about aesthetics and atmosphere found nowhere else.
The Best Horses, Ready for Battle
As race day draws near, the atmosphere around the arena is heating up. Jockeys and trainers from across the country have begun exercising their horses during morning and evening sessions. The humid coastal air mingles with the intense competitive spirit of the participants, making Legok Jawa feel alive with energy.
Several horse lodgings provided by PP Pordasi and residents are situated close to the track, allowing horses and jockeys to adapt directly to the unique racing surface of sand and soil. The top contenders have already begun to showcase their agility, power, and responsiveness to their jockeys’ strategies.
Here are their portraits!
