SARGA.CO – From a small town in West Sumatra comes a name now capturing national attention in Indonesia’s horse racing scene: Romantic Spartan. Representing San Marino Stable from Padang Panjang, this standout racehorse has officially secured a place in the final round of the IHR Indonesia Derby 2025, set to take place on July 27 at Sultan Agung Racecourse (SSA), Bantul, Yogyakarta.
Romantic Spartan is no ordinary horse. In the Heat-1 qualifying round held on July 13, 2025, she finished third among a field of Indonesia’s top contenders—an achievement that earned her a spot in the most prestigious division: the 3-Year-Old Derby over 2,000 meters.
Arya Datuak Marajo, Head of the Organizational Division at Pordasi Padang Panjang, expressed his pride.
“Romantic Spartan is the pride of Padang Panjang. The 2,000-meter Derby class is the highest stage for young racehorses,” said Arya.
In the 2025 IHR Indonesia Derby, West Sumatra sent 16 racehorses into competition. Five qualified for the final, but Romantic Spartan is the sole representative from Padang Panjang in the elite 3-Year-Old Derby class.
“She proves that Padang Panjang can compete with the major stables from Java,” Arya added.
In the final, Romantic Spartan will go head-to-head with top names like King Argentine—the leading favorite for the 2025 Triple Crown—and Wonder Land, a rapidly rising mare in the racing scene.
“We know the competition is tough, but we’re not just here to take part. Romantic Spartan is ready to surprise,” Arya said confidently.
Supporting Romantic Spartan in her campaign are owner Muhammad Ikhsan, trainer Tuan Amris, jockey Rudy Junior, groomer Ferdiansyah, and crew member Doni Agusta.
