SARGA.CO – A big surprise occurred in the thoroughbred (THB) horse racing class at Indonesia's Horse Racing (IHR) Piala Raja Hamengku Buwono X 2025 championship at Sultan Agung Racecourse, Yogyakarta, on Sunday, November 9, 2025.
In addition to the emergence of a new champion, the competition for purebred horses was also intense, as four participants ran side by side just a few hundred meters before the finish line.
Race XVI, covering a distance of 1,600 meters, was participated in by four horses, including two siblings — Lord Montjeu T.A and Star Montjeu T.A — who represented Tombo Ati Stable from Central Java.
The two horses competed against Vaux Theatre from Jakarta, representing Ciengang Stable, with jockey Nandang Septian and trainer Gelar Mulyana.
The last contender in this class, competing for the Arsari Tambang Cup with a prize of Rp40 million, was Sunglow Nagari from Jakarta. The horse from Winning Stable appeared with jockey Joshua Meikel Rori and trainer Novi Telew.
As in other purebred races, the start ran normally with the favored horse leading the race from the front row.
When the starting gate opened, Lord Montjeu T.A, a 6-year-old bay stallion, led the race followed closely by Vaux Theatre from Jakarta.
The two horses competed tightly, running side by side for quite a long stretch after the start.
In the middle of the race, a new threat appeared from Star Montjeu T.A, who began to catch up from the inner lane about 800 meters before the finish. The horse, a sibling of Lord Montjeu T.A, started to join the leading group.
Meanwhile, Sunglow Nagari, who was quite far behind, was still trying to build momentum while the three horses in front began to heat up the race.
The threat from the 3-year-old black filly only emerged at the final turn. The horse, born from sire Da Vinci Eclipse and mare Mrs Magician, had quietly prepared her strength to join the front runners.
Taking position in the middle track, second from the inside, the horse representing East Kalimantan began to enter the battle. As a result, a four-way duel occurred approaching the finish line of Race XVI.
A rare sight appeared as the four purebred horses sprinted together toward the finish line. The winner of Race XVI could only be determined within just a few meters of the finish.
With all four jockeys using their whips, strength and speed became the keys to victory. In that decisive moment, the duel between Sunglow Nagari and Star Montjeu T.A took place fiercely. The tight battle was finally won by Sunglow Nagari by a narrow margin.
Sunglow Nagari’s victory in the purebred class made the crowd at Sultan Agung Racecourse erupt with cheers. The three commentators of IHR Piala Raja HB X even shouted in excitement to celebrate the phenomenal win of Sunglow Nagari.
1st Place: Sunglow Nagari – from East Kalimantan, Winning Stable
