IHR Piala Raja HB X 2025: North Sulawesi’s Monochrome Wins the Division I Derby Duel

SARGA.CO – The main class once again took the spotlight at Indonesia’s Horse Racing (IHR) Piala Raja Hamengku Buwono X 2025, held at Sultan Agung Horse Racing Field, Bantul, Yogyakarta, on Sunday, November 9, 2025.
Race XIV, the 3-Year-Old Derby Division I (1,400 meters), competed for the Le Mineral Cup with a total prize of Rp 110 million.

Five regional contingents fielded seven horses in this prestigious derby division. North Sulawesi (Sulut) sent three of its strongest contenders: Monochrome, ridden by Jones Paendong, Suntora Nagari, ridden by Fajar Walangitan, and Kenangan Sio,n ridden by Stief Tongkeles.

Other participants included Tokugawa Eclipse (Central Java), P. Bintang Sakti (South Kalimantan), Cassius Warrior (East Java), and Bulan Sabit (Yogyakarta).

Suntora Nagari Takes the Early Lead

The Sulut rivalry was evident right from the start. As the gates opened, two Sulut horses — Suntora Nagari and Monochrome — immediately battled for the lead against Tokugawa Eclipse from Central Java.

Over the double-lap distance, Suntora Nagari and Monochrome quickly pulled away from the chasing pack, with Tokugawa Eclipse holding third place.

Meanwhile, Kenangan Sion attempted to close in from the outer track, though the challenge proved difficult as Jones Paendong had already pushed Monochrome two lengths ahead.

Duel of 2 North Sulawesi Horses

Dominance from the Sulut duo grew stronger approaching the final stretch, as Suntora Nagari and Monochrome raced side by side within 400 meters of the finish line.

The duel intensified as Fajar Walangitan, riding Suntora Nagari, struggled to find space to whip his mount, while Monochrome, positioned on the inner lane, gained an advantage.

Taking full control, Jones Paendong skillfully urged Monochrome — the red mare sired by De Lago King out of Myriadin Yr — to surge ahead and secure victory in a tight finish.

2nd Place: Suntora Nagari – North Sulawesi (Bendang Stable)

3rd Place: Tokugawa Eclipse – Central Java (Eclipse Stable)
