SARGA.CO – The roar of waves and the thunder of hooves will merge at the Legok Jawa Racecourse, Pangandaran, West Java, when Indonesia Horse Racing (IHR) – Merdeka Cup 2025 takes place on Sunday, August 24, 2025. With 86 racehorses from seven provinces competing across 16 classes, the event promises fierce action for a total prize purse of Rp425 million.
The centerpiece of this prestigious championship is its unique track along Madasari Beach—one of only two seaside racetracks in the world. Beyond high-octane racing, the event offers a sportainment spectacle infused with tropical tourism vibes.
The two most anticipated contests are the 3-Year-Old Derby Prospect (1,400m) and the Open Sprint Class (1,300m), each carrying Rp60 million in prize money. These races will showcase the nation’s finest young talents and elite sprinters.
This event is part of the IHR 2025 series themed “The Race of Rising Stars”, initiated by SARGA.CO—the first and only professional horse racing promoter in Indonesia—in collaboration with PP PORDASI.
Top contenders from Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, West Sumatra, North Sumatra, and North Sulawesi are set to clash. Among them are national standouts such as:
These horses have already made their mark in the IHR–Indonesia Derby 2025 and Triple Crown Series, and are ready to storm the sands of Pangandaran.
Two Divisions, 16 Fierce Classes
The championship is divided into two main groups:
Age Division (5 classes): 3-Year-Old Debut C/D (1,000m), 3-Year-Old KPI (1,200m), 3-Year-Old Youth Prospect (1,200m), 3-Year-Old Derby Prospect (1,400m), THB INA (1,600m)
Performance Division (11 classes): Classes F, E, D, C, G, H, I, J, including Class C Sprint (1,100m) and Open Sprint (1,300m)
Aseanto Oudang, CEO & Co-Founder of SARGA.CO, emphasized that the championship is not just about crowning the fastest horse but about strengthening an inclusive and progressive horse-racing ecosystem.
“We want this racecourse to gain wider recognition and attract the horse-racing community. Pangandaran and its surrounding areas, especially West Java, host some of the largest numbers of local racing stables in Indonesia,” said Aseanto.
He added that the seaside location, just an hour from Pangandaran’s main tourist area, gives the venue strong potential as a new sport tourism destination where spectators can enjoy racing alongside a coastal holiday.
Watch On-Site or Live on TV
Spectators can enjoy the event with two ticket categories:
Regular – Free: Standing along the trackside.
Tribune – Rp25,000: Seated on shaded, comfortable decks. Tickets will be available onsite on race day.
Kevin Jonathan Van Houten, VP of Marketing & Operations at SARGA.CO encouraged the public and tourists to attend:
“We’ve prepared safe and comfortable viewing facilities, both trackside and in the tribune. Don’t miss the chance to witness Indonesia’s best horses in action while enjoying the breathtaking beach panorama,” he said.
Can’t attend in person? No problem. The IHR–Merdeka Cup 2025 will be broadcast live on Metro TV and Vision+, bringing the thrill of racing to fans across the nation. Supported by Arsari Tambang and Le Minerale, this event is proof that Indonesian horse racing is ready to level up as part of today’s modern sportainment lifestyle.
