SARGA.CO – Intense drama unfolded in Race XIII, Class D – 1,400 meters at Indonesia’s Horse Racing (IHR) Piala Raja Hamengku Buwono X 2025, as Arceus Nagari emerged victorious in a tight duel that kept the tension high until the final second. Although the class competing for the Japfa Cup (worth Rp50 million) featured only four participants, it became one of the most emotional races of the day.
The four entries—Santana Rembulan (Central Java), Arceus Nagari (Jakarta), Merkava (Jakarta), and Putra Kenangan Sari (South Sulawesi)—were all horses that had consistently reached the podium in their last three starts. In fact, Santana Rembulan and Arceus Nagari had previously finished first and second.
As the starting gate opened, an immediate surprise unfolded. Instead of the two favorites, Merkava burst forward first and took the lead. Arceus Nagari tracked closely in second, followed by Putra Kenangan Sari. Meanwhile, Santana Rembulan failed to produce a perfect start and was forced to begin from the back.
Midway through the race, the two Jakarta horses—Merkava and Arceus Nagari—showed dominance. The pair maintained a steady rhythm, leaving the other two runners trailing by as much as two lengths.
But the race changed dramatically when Santana Rembulan displayed her known strength as a powerful finisher. The 5-year-old chestnut mare gradually advanced from the outside lane, overtaking Putra Kenangan Sari and charging into the leading pack.
Entering the final turn, Arceus Nagari held his position along the inside rail—a strategy that gave him a shorter route. Santana Rembulan tried cutting in from the middle lane before shifting outward, forcing a side-by-side duel between two horses with contrasting racing styles.
Tension peaked in the last 100 meters. Santana Rembulan applied pressure from the outside, but Arceus Nagari, owned by Aryo P.S. Djojohadikusumo, maintained his rhythm and power all the way to the finish line. With a razor-thin margin, Arceus Nagari crossed the line first.
The victory underscored Arceus Nagari’s resilience in mid-distance duels, while also avenging his previous runner-up finish in another race.
